VOICES OF PARTICIPANTS:

-    "From a young age I believed I had no artistic talent and have been reluctant to try any art classes of any kind. That all changed when my friend Gabriela offered a class in mosaics and I was persuaded to give it a try. I joined a group of wonderful ladies each week all of different talents but all very supportive, and with Gabriela's gentle guidance and encouragement I produced several items of which I am very proud. The experience showed me that 'art' exists within all of us, but I would not have discovered this without Gabriela, she has a great gift as a teacher as well as being a talented artist and beautiful friend."

 -       "Since beginning lessons in 2010, I have never looked back, but continue to enjoy what I had learned so many years ago with Gabriela as my teacher and my mentor.  Gabriela allowed each student to come up with their own ideas whether inspired by a photo on the Internet, a piece of artwork in a museum, or simply a beautiful flower in the garden. Each project was reviewed for materials needed and type of mosaic technique to be learned. In class, Gabriela always had the "eye" to determine if a project was going to work, or needed a shift in another direction. She teaches by example and wasn't afraid to get down and dirty with us. As she also taught painting in the adjacent art room, she always said that our mosaic room was the place we could get "dirty" while cracking Tiffany glass, splitting stone and marble, or grouting a project when it was finally finished.

I remember two specific times that Gabriela told me, "it's time for you to learn to..." One was to design and create a mosaic project in the original Byzantine style of mosaics, using marble, stones of different colors and tessarae pieces. The second time was when Gabriela told me, "it's time for you to learn to sculpt a piece to later be covered in glass or stone". These projects may have taken me a year or more to complete, but it was something she challenged me to do, in order to learn something new. She definitely taught me how to step outside of my comfort zone!

Walking away from taking her Mosaic Art classes was very difficult to do, as my family was moving back to the States, but I left with knowledge that I would not have gained anywhere else. I truly value all that I have learned from Gabriela Brunner...to this day she still inspires me to continue creating and challenging myself with new and different projects."

-      "My Mosaic journey began in 2005. Gabriela was running classes for absolute beginners and I was keen to explore my artistic abilities. Having no idea what to try, Gabriela suggested I might want to make a simple table top as my first piece. She guided me on the indirect method of mosaic and helped with my design and cutting the tiles.  Gabriela was always there to support and help, but without taking over the process. I went on to make a second table top also using the indirect method. Having caught the creative bug, which had lay dormant until then, I continued to make several direct method mosaics. The first one was a seahorse and then a birdbath. Gabriela was a wonderful and inspirational teacher and I have been truly inspired by her, such that I have made several further mosaics since the classes.

-      "The family workshop with Gabriela was amazing! It was a perfect combination of projects suggested by Gabriela and room for own ideas and creativity. Gabriela allowed the kids to realize any idea they had – making them do ALL the work involved in creating something. The atmosphere was really inspiring and we had lots of laughs. Everyone from 5 to 10 years (and the adults) enjoyed themselves. We’ll be back for more!
